Frequently Bought Together (FBT) Offers

What a Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle does

An FBT bundle shows extra items that go well with a product. Customers can add them with one click, often with a discount. This helps increase your average order value.

In this page, we focus on creating the bundle for product pages. If your store also shows FBT in the cart, you can usually enable that in the same offer, but the detailed placement rules are covered in a separate page.

Before you start

  • Make sure the products you want to bundle are active in Shopify.
  • If you use product variants, decide if the bundle should work for all variants or only certain ones (if your offer settings allow it).
  • Decide your discount type: % off or fixed amount off.
Pick 2–3 bundled items max. Too many options can lower clicks.

Create an FBT offer

In the app admin, go to your Sales Boosters area and open Frequently Bought Together (FBT).

Select Create offer (or Add FBT), then give your offer a name you will recognize later (for example: "Camera + Accessories").

Pick the trigger product. This is the main product that must be on the product page for the bundle to show.

Example: Trigger product = “Camera”. When customers view the Camera product page, the bundle appears.

Add the products you want to recommend as the bundle items.

  • Choose items that are truly related (accessories, refills, add-ons).
  • Make sure the bundled items are in stock (or set your store rules for out-of-stock items).

Set the discount

You can offer a discount to make the bundle more tempting. Most setups let you choose when the discount applies (for example, only when the trigger product is included).

Select the discount type you want to use, such as:

  • Percent off (example: 10% off the bundle)
  • Fixed amount off (example: $5 off)

Type your discount amount and save.

If the editor shows a preview price, double-check it looks correct for your products.

Discounts may not stack with other Shopify discounts, depending on your store settings and the discount type. If a customer says the bundle discount did not apply, check whether another discount code or automatic discount was already active.

Choose layout and design templates

This is where you control how the FBT bundle looks on the product page.

Common layout options

  • Template style: Pick a design template (card style, compact list, etc.).
  • Product card details: Show/hide image, title, price, compare-at price, and savings.
  • Button text: Edit the call-to-action (example: “Add bundle to cart”).
  • Spacing: Adjust padding, gaps, and border radius (if available).
Keep your button text short and clear. Good examples: “Add bundle”, “Add all to cart”, or “Get the set”.

Match your store branding

  • Use your brand colors for buttons and highlights.
  • Use readable font sizes, especially on mobile.
  • Make sure the bundle section does not blend into the page (a small border or background helps).

(Optional) Show the bundle in the cart too

If your offer settings include a toggle to show FBT in the cart, you can turn it on. This can catch shoppers who skipped the bundle on the product page.

Keep your cart clean. If you already use upsells, rewards, and announcements, adding FBT in the cart can feel busy. Start simple and add more only if it helps conversion.

Save, preview, and publish

Save your FBT offer so it’s not lost.

Open the trigger product on your storefront and confirm:

  • The correct bundled items show
  • The discount messaging looks right
  • The button adds the right items

When it looks good, publish/enable the offer so customers can see it.

Troubleshooting quick checks

  • Confirm you selected the right trigger product.
  • Make sure the offer is enabled (not in draft/disabled state).
  • Check if the bundled products are active in Shopify.
  • Make sure the customer added items using the FBT button (not separately).
  • Check if another discount code/automatic discount was active.
  • Confirm the offer discount value is set correctly.
  • Switch to a more compact template.
  • Reduce spacing and image size.
  • Keep the button and savings text short so it doesn’t wrap too much.

Best practices (simple and effective)

  • Bundle items that solve a clear need (example: “Phone” + “Case” + “Screen protector”).
  • Use a small discount (5–15%) to protect your margins.
  • Check your top-selling products first—FBT works best on high-traffic pages.
