Announcement Bar Targeting and Visibility

What “targeting” means

Targeting controls who can see an announcement and where it can show. Use it to show the right message to the right shoppers (for example, only on a product, or only in certain countries).

Your announcement only shows when the Announcement Bar feature is enabled and published. This page focuses on targeting, country rules, and scheduling.

Choose where the announcement appears

Use location rules to decide which pages can show the announcement. Most stores use one of these options:

  • All pages (best for storewide messages like free shipping)
  • Specific products (best for product-specific promos)
  • Specific collections (best for category promos like “10% off hoodies”)
  • Specific pages (best for landing pages or special campaigns)

In the app, go to Sales Boosters (AOV Features) → Announcement Bar (or your announcements section).

Look for a section named Targeting, Display rules, or Visibility.

Select All pages or choose Products, Collections, or Pages, then select the items you want.

Save your changes and publish (if your announcement has a draft vs live state).

If you want an announcement to show only during a campaign, combine page/product/collection targeting with scheduling (see below).

Product targeting (common use)

  • Use this when the message is only true for certain items (example: “Buy 2 tees, get 1 free”).
  • Make sure you selected the exact products (including the correct duplicates, if you have similar items).

Collection targeting (common use)

  • Use this when the message fits a whole category (example: “Winter sale” collection).
  • If you change which products are inside the collection, your announcement visibility will change too.

Page targeting (common use)

  • Use this for landing pages and custom pages (example: /pages/spring-sale).
  • Double-check you selected the correct page (pages can have similar names).

Country / geolocation rules

Country rules let you show different announcements to different shoppers based on their location.

How country rules usually work

  • Include list: show the announcement only in the selected countries
  • Exclude list: show the announcement everywhere except the selected countries

In the announcement’s Targeting section, find Country, Geolocation, or Location rules.

Pick whether you want to include specific countries or exclude specific countries.

Select the countries you want, then save.

Country detection can be affected by VPNs, browser privacy tools, or IP-based location differences. If you are testing from a different country (or using a VPN), your results may not match a real shopper.

Scheduling (start and end time)

Scheduling lets you automatically turn an announcement on and off. This is helpful for flash sales, holiday promos, and timed countdowns.

Open the announcement and look for Schedule, Start date, End date, or Active dates.

Choose when the announcement should begin. If you want it live now, set the start time to the current time (or leave it off, if scheduling is optional).

Choose when it should stop showing. If you leave the end time empty, the announcement can stay active until you turn it off.

Confirm which time zone the schedule uses (usually your store/admin time zone). Then save and publish.

When testing a schedule, set the start time 2–3 minutes in the future, refresh after it starts, and test again in an incognito window to avoid cached results.

Why your announcement is not showing (most common reasons)

If your announcement does not appear, it is almost always caused by one of these:

  • Check whether you targeted All pages or only Products / Collections / Pages.
  • If you targeted a product or collection, open that exact product/collection on your store and test there.
  • If you targeted a page, confirm it is the correct page in Shopify (pages with similar names are easy to mix up).
  • If you used an Include list, the announcement will only show in those countries.
  • If you used an Exclude list, the announcement will not show in those countries.
  • Turn off your VPN and test again, or test from a device/location that matches your target country.
  • Make sure the start time is not in the future.
  • Make sure the end time has not already passed.
  • Check the time zone used for the schedule.

If you have multiple announcements, your store may only show one in a certain spot.

  • Temporarily disable other announcements to test.
  • If you use a carousel/rotator, confirm your message is included and not disabled.
  • Try an incognito/private window.
  • Hard refresh the page.
  • Test on a second device (like your phone on mobile data).

Announcements can be configured to show in specific places (for example, inside the cart drawer). If you are looking on a product page but the announcement is set for the cart drawer, you won’t see it there.

  • Open the cart drawer and test again.
  • Make sure you are testing the correct device (some announcements can be set to desktop-only or mobile-only).

Quick test checklist

  1. Is the announcement enabled and published?
  2. Am I on a page that matches the targeting rule?
  3. Do my country rules allow my location?
  4. Is the schedule active right now (correct time zone)?
  5. Am I testing with incognito or a hard refresh?
If your targeting looks correct but the announcement still won’t show, it may be a broader storefront setup issue. See the troubleshooting pages in your plan for cart drawer visibility and storefront conflicts.
