Discount Codes in the Cart Drawer
What this setting does
Discount codes (also called coupon codes) let customers save money at checkout. When you enable coupon entry in the cart drawer, shoppers can add a code before they go to checkout.
Choose your coupon experience
You can show coupon entry in a few different ways. Pick the one that matches how you want customers to shop.
Option A: Basic coupon input field
- Best for: stores that mainly share codes in emails, ads, or influencer links.
- What customers see: a text field to type a code (example:
WELCOME10) plus an Apply button. - Good to know: customers must already have a code.
Option B: Advanced coupon surfaces
Advanced surfaces help customers find and use offers without typing.
- Coupon list: shows multiple coupons as a list. Great when you have several offers.
- Carousel: shows coupons in a swipeable row. Great for mobile.
- Offers sheet: opens a larger panel where customers can browse offers and apply one.
Enable coupon entry
In your Oxify admin, open Cart Editor.
Find the section for Discount codes (sometimes labeled Coupons).
Enable the setting that allows customers to apply a discount code inside the cart drawer.
Choose Basic input field or an advanced surface (list, carousel, or offers sheet).
Save your changes and preview on your storefront to confirm the coupon area appears in the cart drawer.
Sticky placement (keep coupons easy to find)
Sticky positioning keeps the coupon area visible while customers scroll in the cart drawer.
Common sticky placements
- Sticky near checkout: the coupon area stays close to the checkout button. This is the most common choice.
- Sticky in the header: the coupon area stays at the top. Useful if your cart is long.
- Not sticky: the coupon area scrolls normally. Good for very clean layouts.
Show the applied discount (savings display)
After a customer applies a code, the cart drawer can show that the discount is active.
What you can display
- Applied code label: shows the code name so customers know it worked.
- Savings amount: shows how much money they saved.
- Updated totals: shows the new subtotal/total after the discount is applied.
Recommended layout
- Show the applied code and savings near the totals.
- Make sure it’s visible on mobile without extra scrolling.
Using lists, carousels, and offers sheets (quick guidance)
Advanced coupon surfaces usually work best when you pre-build coupons (cards) with clear names and short descriptions.
FAQ
This is usually a Shopify discount rule. The code might be expired, not allowed for the items in the cart, require a minimum spend, or it may not stack with another discount already applied.
Most stores allow only one discount code at a time, depending on Shopify settings and discount type. If a second code is not allowed, the cart will show a message from Shopify.
Use short, clear names like “10% off” or “Free shipping.” Avoid long text. Keep the main benefit in the first few words.
Best practices
- Keep it simple: if you only run 1–2 promos, a basic input field may be enough.
- Make it visible: consider sticky placement on mobile so shoppers don’t have to hunt for it.
- Show proof: always show the applied discount and updated totals so customers trust the checkout price.
