Split Payments Messaging

What this feature does

Split payments (also called pay‑later) messaging shows a small message in your cart drawer like “Pay in 4” or “As low as $X/mo.” This helps customers feel more comfortable checking out.

The exact words, logo, and rules come from the payment provider. Oxify displays the message and lets you control where it shows and how it fits your cart style.

Before you start

  • Make sure your pay‑later provider is enabled in your Shopify payment settings (for example: Shop Pay Installments, Klarna, Afterpay/Clearpay, Affirm).
  • Open your cart drawer on the storefront to confirm it’s working before you edit messaging.

Turn split payments messaging on

In your Oxify dashboard, open Cart Editor.

Look for a section named Split Payments Messaging (sometimes shown under checkout or payment/trust sections).

Turn on Show split payments (or similar). A preview should update so you can see the message in your cart.

Choose which provider shows

If you use more than one pay‑later option, you can choose what customers see in the cart.

  • Auto (recommended): Oxify shows the best match based on your enabled providers and what the customer is eligible for.
  • Pick a provider: Choose one provider to always show (example: only Klarna).
If you are unsure which one to show, start with Auto. It usually avoids showing a message that isn’t available to the customer.

Control visibility (when it shows)

Use visibility settings to avoid confusing messaging.

  • Show only when the cart total is high enough: Some providers require a minimum order value. If you have a toggle like “hide under $X,” turn it on.
  • Hide on empty cart: Keeps the empty cart screen clean.
  • Device visibility: If available, you can show it on desktop and hide on mobile (or the other way around).
If customers see pay‑later messaging but can’t use it at checkout, they may abandon the order. If you notice this, switch to Auto or add a minimum cart total rule.

Pick the placement in the cart

Place the message where it helps most, without getting in the way.

  • Near the checkout button: Best for conversions because customers see it right before paying.
  • Under the cart total: Good for clarity when customers are reviewing the price.
If you also show trust badges and payment icons, avoid stacking too many items in the same spot. Keep the checkout area easy to scan.

Styling and branding controls

You can style the message so it matches your cart design.

  • Text size: Use a smaller size than the cart total so it doesn’t compete with the price.
  • Text color: Choose a readable color with good contrast on your cart background.
  • Alignment: Left-aligned is usually easiest to read; centered can work in simple layouts.
  • Spacing: Add a little padding/margin so it doesn’t feel cramped next to the checkout button.
Keep pay‑later messaging visually “quiet.” The goal is to reduce price stress, not distract from checkout.

Preview and confirm it works

Add items to your cart at different price points (low, medium, high). Confirm the message appears only when it should.

Open the cart drawer on your phone and on desktop. Make sure the message is readable and not overlapping other elements.

Go to checkout and verify the same pay‑later option is available (or that the customer can select it).

Common questions

  • Your provider may not be enabled in Shopify payments.
  • The cart total may be too low for the provider’s rules.
  • The message may be turned off in Split Payments Messaging settings.
  • The message may be hidden on the device you are testing (mobile/desktop rule).

This usually means the customer is not eligible (country, currency, order total, or provider rules). Try these fixes:

  • Set provider selection to Auto.
  • Add a minimum cart total rule (if available).
  • Make sure the provider is enabled for the markets/currencies you sell in.

Most providers control the wording for compliance. Oxify lets you control visibility, placement, and styling so it matches your cart.
