Cart Drawer Not Showing or Not Opening
Before you start
If the cart drawer is installed but does not show, most “activation” issues come from one of these things:
- The app embed or app block is not enabled in your theme.
- The theme changes were not saved (or you saved the wrong theme).
- You are testing with cached files (browser cache or theme preview cache).
- Another cart app is taking over the cart (conflict).
Step 1: Confirm the right theme is selected
In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
Find the theme labeled Current theme. This is the theme customers are using right now.
Click Customize on that same theme (or on the theme you are testing).
Step 2: Turn on the app embed (Theme app extension)
Many stores need the app embed enabled for the cart drawer to load correctly.
In the theme editor, click App embeds (left sidebar).
Find Oxify Cart Drawer and switch it On.
Click Save in the top right of the theme editor.
Step 3: Turn on (or add) the app block in the right place
Some themes also require the app block to be added to the correct template so the drawer features can hook into your store.
In the theme editor, use the top dropdown to open the template you are testing (for example: Products).
Click Add block in the section where the app block belongs, then select Apps and choose the Oxify block.
If the block is already there, click it and make sure it is not hidden/disabled.
Click Save.
Step 4: Save correctly (common “it didn’t save” causes)
If the drawer worked for a moment and then stopped, it is often a save/publish issue.
In the theme editor, confirm Save is not showing “Unsaved changes”. If it is, click Save.
Go back to Online Store → Themes and confirm you changed the same theme you are previewing.
If your changes are on a duplicate theme, they will not affect your live store until you Publish that theme.
Step 5: Test with a clean browser (cache + incognito)
Browsers can keep old files. This can make it look like your changes did not work.
Open an Incognito (Chrome) or Private (Safari/Firefox) window.
Go to your storefront, add a product to the cart, and see if the cart drawer opens.
If possible, test on your phone using cellular data (not Wi‑Fi). This avoids local caching issues.
Step 6: Check for conflicts with other cart apps
Only one app should “control” the cart experience. If more than one cart app is active, they can fight each other.
- Clicking “Add to cart” opens a different cart (popup cart, cart page, or another drawer).
- The drawer opens sometimes, but not always (depends on page or product).
- Cart count updates, but the drawer does not open.
- Your theme has two different “cart drawer” features enabled.
In Shopify admin, go to Apps and temporarily disable any other cart drawer/popup cart/cart upsell apps (if they have theme toggles or app embeds).
Some themes have their own cart drawer setting. If it is enabled at the same time, it can override the app.
Add to cart and confirm which cart opens.
Keep only one cart drawer active. If you want upsells, rewards, notes, or shipping protection, enable those features inside Oxify instead of running a second cart app.
Step 7: Common activation mistakes (quick fixes)
- You enabled the toggle but nothing changed: You may be editing the wrong theme, or you didn’t click Save.
- It works in preview but not on live: The live theme may not have the app embed/app block enabled.
- It works for you but not for others: Test in incognito and on another device. Clear cache.
- It stopped after installing another app: Disable the other cart app’s theme embed/block and test again.
