When you publish a new Shopify theme (or update a theme), Shopify often treats it like a fresh setup. That means parts of Oxify Cart Drawer may be turned off in the new theme—even if everything worked in your old theme.
Good to know: Your app settings are usually still saved in Oxify. Most problems after a theme change are caused by the new theme not having the app embed/app blocks enabled.
What typically breaks after a theme change
- Cart drawer does not open when you click Add to cart.
- Add to cart works, but it goes to a different cart (like the theme’s default cart page or drawer).
- Cart icon count or cart badge does not update.
- Cart widgets don’t show (like discount code box, rewards, upsells, trust badges, notes, etc.).
- Buttons stop triggering the drawer because the new theme uses different button styles or structure.
Quick restore checklist (most stores)
In Shopify, go to Online Store → Themes. Find the theme you are using (Published) or the theme you are testing (Customize).
In the theme editor, open App embeds (usually in the left sidebar). Turn on the Oxify Cart Drawer app embed. Click Save.
In the theme editor, check places where you expect Oxify content to show (cart, mini cart, product page, etc.). If your store uses app blocks for any Oxify features, add/enable them again in the new theme and Save.
Open your storefront in a new incognito/private window. Add a product to cart and confirm the cart drawer opens and your widgets show as expected.
If you have multiple themes (Published + a backup theme), you must enable the app embed/app blocks in each theme separately.
If it still doesn’t work: re-check selectors
Some themes use custom buttons and custom cart icons. If the new theme uses different HTML than your old theme, Oxify may not “see” the right Add to cart button or cart counter.
Selectors are an advanced setting. Only change them if your cart drawer still won’t open after you re-enabled the app embed/app blocks.
Before touching selectors, double-check you saved the theme after enabling the app embed and any needed app blocks.
In the Oxify app, go to the area for Theme compatibility or Custom selectors (the page name may vary by version). This is where Oxify learns what to click/track in your theme.
Check the selectors for:
- Add to cart button (what opens the drawer after adding)
- Open cart trigger (cart icon/button in the header)
- Cart count/badge (the bubble number)
If your theme changed, update the selector(s) that no longer match.
Save your changes, then test in an incognito/private window. Make sure:
- Add to cart opens the drawer
- Cart badge updates
- Checkout works as expected
Common “gotchas” after a theme switch
Make sure you enabled the app embed/app blocks in the published theme (not only the theme you were previewing). Then click Save.
Some templates (like a special product template) may use a different Add to cart button. You may need selectors that match those templates too.
This usually means Oxify is not enabled in the new theme, or the theme is still set to open its own cart drawer first. Re-enable the Oxify app embed/app blocks and test again.
This is often a cart badge selector issue in the new theme, or the badge is rendered differently on mobile vs desktop. Re-check the cart count/badge selector.
If you’re using multiple Oxify widgets (rewards, upsells, discount code, notes, trust icons), a theme switch can make it look like “everything broke.” In most cases, re-enabling the app embed/app blocks restores all of them at once.
