Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions (quick answers)

This page answers the most common questions about theme compatibility, mobile support, and how discounts and AOV features behave in Oxify Cart Drawer.

In most cases, yes. Oxify Cart Drawer is made to work with popular Shopify themes and most custom themes.

You should expect it to work if:

  • Your product pages have a normal Add to cart button
  • Your cart updates normally when items are added
  • Your theme does not use a fully custom cart system
If your store uses a heavily customized theme, you may need extra setup so the drawer opens when customers click your theme’s Add to cart button. That setup is covered in the separate “Theme Compatibility and Custom Selectors (Advanced)” page.

The most common issues happen with:

  • Custom themes that don’t use Shopify’s standard add-to-cart flow
  • Themes with multiple Add to cart buttons (quick add, sticky ATC, collection cards) that behave differently
  • Stores running more than one cart/drawer app at the same time
If the cart drawer opens sometimes but not always, the theme likely has more than one “Add to cart” button type (for example: product page vs quick add). Make sure you test each place customers can add to cart.

Yes. The cart drawer is built to be mobile-friendly. It supports common mobile actions like tapping, scrolling, and changing quantities.

On mobile, these settings matter most:

  • Cart width and spacing (so it doesn’t feel cramped)
  • Sticky checkout area (so checkout is always easy to find)
  • Upsell layouts (keep cards simple so they fit well)
Mobile screens are small. If you enable too many blocks (rewards + upsells + add-ons + trust badges + notes), the cart can feel long. Keep only what you need.

Yes. Rewards (progress bar, free gifts), upsells, add-ons, and coupon entry can all show on mobile.

Best practice for mobile:

  • Show one main goal at a time (example: “Spend $50 for free shipping”)
  • Limit upsells to 1–3 items in the cart
  • Keep text short so customers don’t need to scroll as much

Oxify Cart Drawer displays and helps apply discounts, but Shopify controls the final discount rules and calculations.

What this usually means:

  • If a discount is valid, it can be shown/applied in the cart drawer.
  • The final price at checkout is always decided by Shopify’s discount system.
  • If Shopify blocks a discount (because of rules or stacking limits), the cart can’t force it through.
If a discount looks “applied” but the checkout total doesn’t change, it usually means Shopify did not allow that discount to combine with something else.

Sometimes, but not always. Stacking depends on how your Shopify discounts are set up and what Shopify allows to combine.

Common outcomes:

  • Code + automatic discount: may not combine (very common).
  • Free shipping + product discount: may combine if allowed in Shopify.
  • App offer discount + another code: usually does not stack unless Shopify allows it.
If you promise “extra 10% off” in your cart, but customers already use a discount code, the extra discount may not apply. Write your offer text carefully.

They can work together, but you should plan for two things:

  • Customer experience: too many offers can feel confusing.
  • Discount limits: Shopify may not allow every discount to stack.

A simple, high-performing setup is usually:

  • 1 reward goal (example: free shipping)
  • 1 upsell area (example: related products)
  • Optional: 1 add-on (example: shipping protection)
  • Pick one main goal: Free shipping usually works well for most stores.
  • Set a realistic goal: Aim slightly above your current average order value (AOV), not 2x higher.
  • Keep the message simple: “Add $12 more to unlock free shipping.”
  • Test with real products: Try small and large items so you know customers can reach the goal.
If you use a free gift, pick a gift that stays in stock and ships easily. Out-of-stock gifts are one of the top reasons free gift offers fail.
  • Show items that match what’s already in the cart (same product type, refills, accessories).
  • Keep it tight: 1–3 strong suggestions usually beat 10 random ones.
  • Use clear value: “Complete the set” or “Save 15% when added together.”
  • Avoid duplicates: Don’t push the exact item that’s already in the cart (unless you want customers to buy multiples).
Detailed setup steps for these features are covered in their own pages (Upsells, FBT, and Discounted Upsells).
  • Limit choices: Too many coupon cards can lower conversions.
  • Use honest labels: Say what the coupon really does (example: “10% off orders over $60”).
  • Avoid conflicts: If you already run automatic discounts, be careful with coupon promotions.
Don’t advertise “stackable” coupons unless you have tested that Shopify allows the combination you’re promising.

This is usually normal behavior when Shopify recalculates discounts at checkout.

The most common reasons are:

  • The discount is not allowed to combine with another discount that is already active
  • The cart no longer meets the discount rules (minimum spend, required products, etc.)
  • A free gift or reward item changed the cart in a way that affects discount eligibility
When testing, always add items, apply the offer, and then click through to checkout to confirm the final total. Use a theme preview or incognito window for cleaner testing.

Most stores run smoothly, but adding many blocks can increase how much content loads in the cart.

To keep things fast:

  • Start with a simple layout (rewards + 1 upsell + trust badges)
  • Avoid very large images in upsell cards
  • Only enable features you truly use

Recommended AOV setup (simple and safe)

Choose a single reward that matches your store (free shipping is a strong default). Show 1–3 relevant items (accessories, refills, bundles). If you already run Shopify automatic discounts, be careful with extra coupon promotions to avoid stacking problems. Open the cart from product pages, quick add buttons, and the cart icon. Then confirm totals in checkout. This FAQ page focuses on common behavior and best practices. For step-by-step fixes, see the troubleshooting pages in this plan.
