Additional Notes (Order Notes) in Cart

What the order notes field does

The Order notes field lets customers type a message before checkout. This message is saved with the order so you and your team can see it when you prepare and ship.

Order notes are best for short requests like gift messages or delivery instructions. For changes like address updates, customers should contact you directly.

Turn on order notes

In your Oxify Cart Drawer admin, go to Cart Editor. Look for the section named Additional Notes or Order Notes (wording may vary by version). Turn on Order notes so the input shows in your cart drawer. Save your changes, then preview your storefront to make sure the field appears and can be typed in.

Choose where the field shows

You can choose the position so it fits your cart layout and does not distract from checkout.

  • Near cart items: Good when the note is about items (gift wrap, color preference, “don’t include prices”).
  • Near the checkout area: Good when the note is about delivery (“leave at side door”, “buzz apartment 12”).
  • Lower in the drawer: Keeps the cart clean and reduces clutter for quick shoppers.
If you want more customers to use notes, place the field where it’s easy to see without scrolling too much. If you want fewer random notes, place it lower in the cart.

Customize the label and placeholder

Clear text helps customers write the right kind of note.

Label text (the title above the box)

  • Example: Order note
  • Example: Gift message or delivery instructions
  • Example: Note for our team

Placeholder text (light text inside the box)

  • Example: Type your gift message here…
  • Example: Leave at front desk, call on arrival…
  • Example: Any special requests? (No address changes)
Don’t promise things you can’t always do (for example, “Same-day delivery”). Keep the wording simple and realistic.

Common use cases

Best for: birthdays, holidays, surprises.

Suggested label: Gift message

Suggested placeholder: Write your message (we’ll print it on a note)…

Tip: If you don’t include receipts in gift orders, mention it in your store policy, not in the placeholder.

Best for: apartment buildings, gated communities, safe-drop notes.

Suggested label: Delivery instructions

Suggested placeholder: Gate code, call box name, where to leave the package…

Carriers may not follow every request. Avoid wording that sounds guaranteed.

Best for: “no prices in the box”, “pack as a gift”, “combine items in one box”.

Suggested label: Packing note

Suggested placeholder: Example: Please don’t include prices in the package…

  • Address changes (customers should update in checkout if possible or contact you).
  • Urgent changes after ordering (notes can be missed if the order is already being packed).
  • Long customer support messages (send via your support channel instead).

Quick checklist

  • The field shows on both desktop and mobile.
  • The label clearly says what customers should write.
  • The placeholder gives a simple example.
  • The field is placed where it makes sense for your cart layout.
